The Antique provincial government recently allotted an additional P2 million worth of livelihood assistance to sugarcane plantation workers, or sacada, this year.
According to Angeline Javier of the provincial government’s Sacada Desk, laborers will be provided live animals, sari-sari stores, and “tri-bikes,” in addition to financial assistance.
“In the last quarter of the year, livelihood assistance will be ready for distribution,” she elaborated.
Sacada Desk staff also plan on conducting workshops on financial literacy to provide the workers with information regarding the rights and protection of sugar migrant workers.
Last year, laborers were provided with live animals, pump boats, tricycles, and assistance amounting to P1.8 million./WDJ
