Five of the six policemen who died in the recent New People’s Army (NPA) ambush in Guihulngan City were laid to rest in their respective hometowns.
Senior Police Officer 2 (SPO2) Necasio Tabilon, Police Officer 2 (PO2) Alvin Paul Bulandres, and PO2 Alfredo Dunque were buried in Guihulngan City; while SPO1 Jesael Ancheta was interred in Jimalalud and SPO2 Toevic Agosto in La Libertad, all in Negros Oriental.
Police Superintendent Carlos Lacuesta, Jr., acting Guihulngan City Police Station chief, confirmed his predecessor, Police Superintendent Arnel Arpon, will be buried in his hometown of Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental on August 5.
Meanwhile, wounded policemen SPO4 Jerome Delara, PO3 Jordan Balderas, and PO2 Joery Maribao are still in recovery and have not been released from Silliman University Medical Center.
Despite reports claiming sightings of armed men, Lacuesta said there is nothing to fear as the Philippine Army 79th Infantry Battalion (79IB) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action Force (SAF) are conducting patrols.
Although, he suggested local residents to return home early and not to venture on the roads at night./WDJ
