At least one person was confirmed dead, while another was seriously wounded, after a hacking incident at Purok Cabansan, Barangay Orong, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, Thursday afternoon.
Police identified the fatality as Junior Gador Emproso and the wounded victim as his wife, Vivian Emprosi, both 40 and residents of Sitio Mag-aso in the said barangay.
Reports released by Kabankalan City police said Emproso interrupted the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Jophil Sorreno, when he pointed out cigarettes were not available at a store owned by Josephine Tomentos and suggested to make the purchase elsewhere.
The victim and the suspect then engaged in a heated argument, where the victim challenged the suspect to a fight.
Sorreno allegedly took his bolo and hacked the victim, striking his neck and killing him on the spot.
Emproso’s wife was also hit after she tried to break up the scuffle.
The husband’s body was brought to Sola Gracia Funeral Services for a post mortem examination, while his wife was brought to the Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital for medical treatment.
After several hours, Sorreno voluntarily surrendered to Barangay Orong Kagawad Noel Solbo-an.
The suspect, with bolo and scabbard in tow, was brought to the local police station, where he may face homicide and frustrated homicide charges./WDJ
