According to Abang Lingkod Party-list Rep. Stephen Paduano, the entire Visayan bloc has vowed to support the holdover of incumbent barangay officials in the event the upcoming barangay elections are postponed.
He noted, the proposal, introduced by Surigao del Norte second district Rep. Robert Barbers, is expected to be taken up at the committee level next week.
The bill, however, pushes for the appointment of new officials in light of the postponed polls.
Earlier this month, Paduano voiced his opposition to appointing barangay officials, saying, “There is a high likelihood of internal conflicts within the barangay administration, especially if the wrong people are chosen.”/WDJ
