Talisay City Mayor Neil Lizares III said he is considering a public private partnership (PPP) for a 2,000 hectare reclamation project in the coastal area of the city.
“The land reclamation project is seen to further boost development in the third district of Negros Occidental,” he said.
Earlier this month, Lizares, alongside Negros Occidental third district Rep. Alfredo Benitez, met with Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) chairperson, Atty. Alberto Agra, to discuss the possibility of a reclamation project.
Also in attendance were Rolando Corona of the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corporation (BREDCO) and Talisay City Assistant City Administrator Ismael Penado.
The mayor noted, BREDCO would undertake the project once it is agreed upon.
He added, more meetings with the PRA are being planned with Vice Mayor Samuel Siote and the members of the city council as, in order to get the process going, an ordinance pertaining to the PPP must first be passed.
Lizares said the reclamation project will be a “mixed use” property./WDJ
