Police Regional Office-18 (PRO-18) confirmed yesterday the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) is investigating the deadly ambush in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, by the New People’s Army (NPA).
PRO-18 spokesperson, Police Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas, said CHR began their probe last Saturday and are looking into alleged human rights violations carried out by the rebels.
Vargas also confirmed the regional office formed a special investigation task group, headed by Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOrPPO) Director, Police Senior Superintendent Henry Biñas
Earlier, Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. urged the CHR to investigate the incident.
“[CHR] are only monitoring the government, police, and the armed forces, but never the rebels,” Marañon said. “They have to do their jobs fairly and always investigate both sides.”/WDJ
