Governors, mayors, and officials of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) are expected to attend the 9th Visayan Sea Summit, to be held on Sicogon Island, part of Carles, Iloilo, today.
According to environmental lawyer Antonio Oposa, among the items to be discussed are patrol boat assignments to best enforce environmental laws, policy changes in regards to fish sanctuaries, and planned operations throughout the Visayan Sea.
He noted, particular attention also needs to be paid to the enforcement of rules to combat illegal fishing.
Those in attendance also plan on crafting a management framework for the conservation, protection, and restoration of the Visayan Sea./WDJ
