The Negros Occidental Provincial Tourism Office called for better security at tourist sites, following the robbery incident that took place at the Lakawon Island Resort over the weekend.

Provincial tourism head Christine Mansinares said, upon learning about the incident, her office coordinated with local security forces to increase their presence at locales popular with tourists.

She also asked the public to report any suspicious acts of non-residents who are seen hanging around tourist areas.

“There is a need, not only of resort owners, but the surrounding communities to be vigilant,” Mansinares said.

Former Pagadian City Mayor Samuel Co and his wife were previously victimized by thieves on Lakawon, with several pieces of jewelry, cash, and watches, valued at nearly P4 million, stolen.

Lakawon Island Resort and Spa owner Vladimir Gonzales has since stated his intentions to investigate the robbery./DGB, WDJ
