A month after the ambush of planter Norberto Lumayno and his driver Danilo Braga, Calatrava Municipal police have yet to file criminal charges against the suspects.
Calatrava town police chief, Police Chief Inspector John Joel Batusbatusan, said they ran into difficulty since the suspects are only identified through their aliases.
He explained, it is important they obtain the full name of the suspects in order to file charges in court.
Batusbatusan also noted, the Lumayno family previously approached the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for assistance, however, the NBI has yet to complete its own investigation.
He added, the incident has been tagged as “case cleared” after the New People’s Army (NPA) claimed responsibility for the incident.
Last month, Lumayno and Braga were ambushed by around 15 NPA gunmen in Barangay Minapasok, Calatrava killing them both on the spot.
The NPA stated they killed Lumayno after the revolutionary court found him guilty of allegedly murdering farmers in Calatrava, Toboso, and Don Salvador Benedicto.
The rebels also accused Lumayno of being a “notorious land grabber.”/DGB, WDJ
