During the opening of the National OURFood Conference yesterday at the SMX Convention Center at SM City Bacolod, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Jesus Hinlo, Jr. encouraged local government units (LGUs) to implement stricter food safety guidelines.

He reminded LGUs to implement the requirements of the sanitary permit before being issued, noting, “Unregistered and unsanitary food stands continue to be a problem.”

“There should be an improved capacity for food processing, storage, travel, and increased earning capacity of the people,” the DILG official stated.

Hinlo used Singapore as an example, which was recently named fourth best in the world in terms of food security./DGB, WDJ
