The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Region VI (PDEA-6) recently declared the municipality of Maasin, Iloilo drug-free.

According to PDEA-6 Director Gil Pabilona, all 50 barangays in the town are no longer affected by illegal drugs.

Mayor Mariano Malones, Sr., who was previously named by President Rodrigo Duterte as being a “drug protector,” said he met the challenge personally given by the president to get rid of illegal drugs in his town.

He explained, part of his initiatives included drug testing barangay and municipal government officials.

The mayor added there is also an ongoing monitoring of town residents who previously surrendered to authorities as former drug personalities./WDJ
