The Integrated Seafarers of the Philippines (ISP) is suggesting members to save their earnings and invest wisely, following recent data showing seafarer deployments declined from 406,000 to 400,000 between 2015 and 2016.

According to ISP president, Captain Jess Morales, 20 percent of Filipino seafarers are considered “successful.”

He explained, most have a good income from sailing and earn to help their families back home in the Philippines, but it is still important to save and learn how to invest.

Morales suggested seafarers participate in the Business Plan Competition Plan, a program by the Department of Labor and Employment – National Reintegration Center for Overseas Filipino Workers (DOLE-NRCO)./WDJ
