In a press conference yesterday, Task Force Botagoy head Rex Juplo reported the city has seized over 2,878 kilos of “double-dead” pork and P630,913 worth of “hot meat” in the first six months of this year.
“Double-dead” meat refers to meat taken from an animal that had previously died of disease, while “hot meat” is meat that was illegally slaughtered.
He noted, the most recent catch originated from Murcia and was intercepted at the Paglaum Village in Barangay Mansilingan.
12 kilos of “hot meat” has been confiscated so far in July.
Juplo urged local meat vendors and residents to voluntarily surrender spoiled meat to the task force, citing health implications that could arise if consumed.
He added, residents should also call the task force hotline, 092-8111-0960, if they see anyone slaughtering pigs in their area, as the activity is only allowed at the city slaughterhouse in Barangay Handumanan./WDJ
