In an interview with Bombo Radyo-Bacolod yesterday morning, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) head, Atty. Japhet Masculino, reported high-value crops from Mindanao, comprised of cabbage, onions, and spices, are not currently affected by the imposition of Martial Law.
He explained, while Marawi City is not currently exporting to Negros Occidental, the vegetables coming into the province are not from that area.
In terms of reports claiming Negros is not capable of growing enough crops to meet the demand of local residents, Masculino said there are areas in the province capable of growing the crops that are currently being imported.
The OPA chief pointed out, however, the land area is too small to grow enough to meet local demand./WDJ
