The Negros Occidental provincial government, in partnership with the Pontevedra municipal government, recently distributed food packs to 50 local students as part of the Nutrition Month observance.
According to Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Maria Regina Ortega, 25 elementary school students and 25 children in daycare recipients were identified as malnourished and from low income families.
“Nutrition Month aims to make the public conscious of their eating habits so they can avoid obesity and non-communicable diseases,” she said.
The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) prepared the food packs, while the Provincial Health Office (PHO) provided fresh milk and multivitamins.
Ortega noted, other planned Nutrition Month activities include a nutri-quiz, a cooking contest, a feeding program, the search for Mister and Miss Nutrition, school-wide deworming, and a poster-making contest./WDJ
