A recently escaped inmate is in critical condition after members of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) shot and recaptured him along 7th-Lacson Streets, Bacolod City, yesterday morning.
Jail personnel identified the individual as Arian Mark Salaber, a jail inmate of the Handumanan BJMP detention facility.
In a report by Bombo Radyo-Bacolod, Salaber currently faces charges in violation of RA 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
According to police reports, Salaber escaped the Handumanan jail last Saturday.
Authorities tracked down the suspect’s lover, who agreed to cooperate.
The two agreed to meet along Lacson Street, where BJMP personnel were positioned.
The suspect arrived on Monday morning aboard a tricycle, however, sensing the presence of authorities, he tried to escape, prompting jail guards to open fire.
Salaber was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) after suffering a gunshot wound to the back, with the bullet exiting his chest.
Jail guards, meanwhile, claimed they took the shot as Salaber was considered armed and dangerous./WDJ
