Bacolod Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya said he needs to review the bill proposing civil union for same-sex couples before taking a position on the matter.
“I want to see the draft of the bill to see its intent,” he said.
House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez is seeking to provide civil unions for same-sex couples, which would govern property rights, custodial rights over children, and adoption rights for childless couples.
Earlier, former San Sebastian Cathedral Rector, Fr. Felix Pasquin, called the proposal a “travesty of God’s intent in instituting the sacrament of marriage.”
Alvarez previously clarified civil unions are not equivalent to same-sex marriage, calling it “short of marriage.”
He also said the bill would benefit heterosexual couples who are not married but would like to maintain property rights. /WDJ
