
Rolando Espina, Jr. of Bacolod City recently set a new record for 24-hour long distance running, or an endurance run, completing 210.798 kilometers at the International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) World Championships.

Rolando Espina, Jr. of Bacolod City recently set a new record for 24-hour long distance running, or an endurance run, completing 210.798 kilometers at the International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) World Championships in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
According to Jovie Narcise of the Philippine Association of Ultra Runners, the previous record was 203.4 kilometers.
Espina works as a nurse in Dublin, Ireland and was the first Filipino to complete the Spartathlon race in Greece last year.
Two other Negrenses also took part in the event, Rex Brillantes, who completes 170 kilometers and finished number 130; and Jivee Tolentino, who finished 159 kilometers and came in number 137.
Espina is expected to take part in this year’s Spartathlon race in September./WDJ
