In light of the looming possibility barangay elections will be postponed, Bacolod City Liga ng mga Barangay (Liga) President and Barangay Tangub Captain Noli Villarosa warned fellow barangay officials not to extort money in the hopes of securing an appointment.
According to Villarosa, groups supposedly linked with President Rodrigo Duterte and his political party, PDP-Laban, are said to be behind the schemes.
However, with the bill seeking to postpone barangay elections also granting President Rodrigo Duterte the power to appoint barangay officials, the local Liga leader said his group is pushing for an executive order to hold over current officeholders.
Villarosa believes barangay officials should serve five-year terms, with a limit of two terms./WDJ
