A team from the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and the Department of Education (DepEd) recently hosted around 200 Paglaum Village National High School students at an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Campus Fora.
The team discussed the benefits of ASEAN and how it aids students and citizens of the member countries.
DTI Information Officer Rommel Amihan discussed the economic community of ASEAN, saying the organization is superior to the European Union in that the six member countries are in close proximity to each other and account for a large part of the world’s economy and population.
He said the ultimate vision is for a stable, prosperous, and competitive ASEAN, in which there is a free flow of goods, services and investment.
DepEd social science teacher Fe Catalan said the organization also opens up opportunity to study abroad and to work overseas.
Meanwhile, Lorenzo Lambatin of PIA discussed the goals of ASEAN, which include accelerated economic growth, social progress, and cultural development in the region./WDJ
