In an effort to curb the continuing degradation of the environment at resort destination Boracay, Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Region VI (DENR-6) Director Jim Sampulna yesterday launched an environmental campaign dubbed “Dalaw-Turo.”
According to the local DENR official, teams comprised of individuals from the Environmental Management Bureau-Region VI (EMB-6) and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Region VI (MGB-6) will conduct an information campaign by going door-to-door at hotels, resorts, restaurants, shops, and households.
He characterized it as similar to the Oplan: Tokhang campaign of the Philippine National Police (PNP), where suspected drug personalities are approached by authorities at their place of residence.
Last month, DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu called Boracay the top priority for the department in the Western Visayas region.
Cimatu is pushing for formal solutions to recurring environmental problems, including waste management, wastewater treatment, ensuring safe water quality, and regulated development./WDJ
