Former two-time boxing world champion Gerry Peñalosa voiced his dismay with the loss of Manny Pacquiao to Australian boxer Jeff Horn over the weekend.
“It’s unfair,” he stated. “Manny won at least seven rounds.”
Peñalosa also took jabs at the officiating of the fight and criticized the maneuvers of Pacquiao’s opponent.
“The referee is biased for letting Horn continue dirty tactics,” the former champion asserted.
Meanwhile, Alliance Boxing Association of the Philippines Vice President Angel ‘Nonong’ Verdeflor believes Horn’s talents may have been overlooked.
“Pacquiao might also have underestimated Horn’s fighting style,” he explained. “That’s where the judges banked their decision.”
Former Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella also echoed sentiments regarding Horn being underestimated, but also credited “home field advantage” for the victory.
“Hometown decisions can be harsh but that’s boxing,” he said.
