Moises Padilla Mayor Magdaleno Peña yesterday revealed, based on a classified memorandum he obtained from the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO), he is reportedly on a New People’s Army (NPA) hit list.
Peña pointed out he is the only local politician mentioned on the said memorandum.
“Does it mean [other officials] are paying revolutionary taxes to the NPA?” he asked. “Are they not supporting the government’s drive against insurgency and rebellion?”
Two weeks ago, members of the NPA claimed responsibility for the killing of planter Norberto Lumayno in Calatrava, Negros Occidental.
Police are also investigating if the rebels were involved in the attempted assassination of Barangay Bacong Captain Biboy Gayagas in Bago City last Sunday./WDJ
