A jeepney driver was allegedly assaulted and held at gunpoint by a drunk man at Bangga Bagul, Barangay Granada, Bacolod City, late Sunday evening.
Police identified the victim as 41-year-old Ezekiel Infante, a resident of Purok 78 4-A, Barangay Vista Alegre in the said city.
According to members of Police Station 5 (PS5), they received a call from an anti-crime group in the area reporting Infante was assaulted by 54-year-old Mariamelo Occeña.
Witnesses said Infante was parking his jeepney when he was punched by a drunk Occeña.
Infante tried to flee and was subsequently chased by the suspect.
When Occeña caught up with Infante, he held the victim at gunpoint with a .22 caliber revolver.
Infante, however, fought back and grappled the firearm from the suspect as bystanders joined in and restrained Occeña until authorities arrived.
Cops recovered the .22 caliber revolver together with eight .22 caliber bullets.
Occeña faces assault and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. He is presently detained at PS5./WDJ
