Investigators from the Bago City Police Station are still trying to determine the motive behind last Sunday’s attempted murder of Barangay Bacong Captain Federico Gayagas.
According to Bago City police deputy, Police Senior Inspector Hercules Trigue, based on their findings, the suspects may have camped out towards the back of Gayagas’ farm as early as 3:00 a.m., as authorities discovered several pieces of bread left in the area.
Trigue also stated Gayagas was armed during the incident and had returned fire against the suspects, forcing them to retreat towards a grassy area.
No one else was injured in the incident and police are still probing whether or not the New People’s Army (NPA) carried out the assassination attempt.
Gayagas was immediately rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Bacolod City following the incident and is now in recovery.
Last year, Gayagas was involved in a bloody shootout in Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City when he led drug suspects Jaime Benares, Samson Gonzaga, and Reynante Firmias to a trap set by the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).
The shootout killed Gayagas’ cousin and Bacong kagawad, Rodolfo, Jr.
Following the incident, Gayagas revealed he was working as a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) informant./WDJ
