Former Negros Press Club (NPC) President Carla Cañet was named Rotary Club of Bacolod-East (RCBE) president last week during a ceremony at the O Hotel in Bacolod City. She takes over for Elsie Esperacion-Jolingan.
Jolingan complimented her successor, crediting her previous leadership experience.
“I consider my successor to be very qualified for the position because of her past leadership experience serving as president of the oldest press club in the country – the Negros Press Club,” she said.
Cañet responded by telling her predecessor she “wholeheartedly” accepted the duties and responsibilities as club president.
Also in attendance was former District Governor Oliver Ong of the Rotary Club of Zamboanga, who currently serves as chair for the Rotary Foundation.
He pointed out Cañet’s role as acting president, when Jolingan underwent knee surgery in 2016.
“It’s good that Carla already underwent her on-the-job training for three months in 2016,” he noted. “This means she will be serving Rotary for a year and three months.”
“I believe she will enjoy her journey as the new RCBE president,” Ong added./WDJ
