The remains of a missing 60-year-old woman were recovered by fishermen off the coast of Escalante City, Saturday afternoon.
Police identified the fatality as Laurita Cabag, a resident of Barangay Cambayobo, Calatrava.
Escalante City police chief, Police Chief Inspector Rolly Pondevilla, said the victim was reportedly swept away a few days ago during a heavy rainstorm and went missing.
Cabag’s remains were spotted and recovered by fishermen in the sea separating Escalante City from the town of Tabuelan in Cebu.
Pondevilla said the victim’s remains were identified by the next of kin, who recognized the clothes she was wearing.
He also noted the remains initially garnered attention after several social media users alleged the remains were those of Bien Unido, Bohol Mayor Gisela Boniel, who remains missing after she was allegedly murdered by her husband in Cebu City last month.
Pondevilla added the body was buried after it was identified as it was already in an advanced state of decomposition./WDJ
