The barangay captain of Bacong in Bago City was shot over the weekend after several gunmen raided his chicken farm.
Police identified the victim as Barangay Captain Biboy Gayagas.
Bago City police chief, Police Chief Inspector Joefer Cabural, said armed men entered the farm around 8:00 a.m. and shot Gayagas several times, wounding him in the shoulder and leg.
The gunmen fled while Gayagas was rushed to a hospital in Bacolod City for treatment.
Cabural also confirmed the official had been receiving threats, however, the victim refused to provide further information on the matter.
In an interview with Bago City police deputy, Police Senior Inspector Hercules Trigue, he said authorities are still investigating whether or not the New People’s Army (NPA) was responsible for the attack.
Trigue noted several empty shells from an assault rifle were recovered from the crime scene and police are still trying to identify the suspects./WDJ
