Bacolod Real Estate Development Corporation (BREDCO) president and developer of the 250-hectare port and reclamation project Simplicio Palanca offered his appreciation for being selected as a recipient of the Ang Banwahanon Award, an honor bestowed by the Bacolod City government.
Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia visited the 94-year-old businessman at his residence yesterday to present him with his medal and plaque. Palanca was unable to attend the formal awarding at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) earlier this month.
According to the mayor, the port and reclamation project “not only altered the western skyline but also transformed the economic landscape of Bacolod City by creating countless jobs and generating millions of pesos in tax revenues.”
Palanca also built the seven-story tower at the Reclamation Area to commemorate the visit of Pope John Paul II to Bacolod City. The landmark stands at the exact location where the saint celebrated mass in 1983. /WDJ
