Six Negrense athletes will be part of the Philippine sepak takraw team, set to compete at the 9th ASEAN School Games from July 13 to 21 in Singapore.
Among the local athletes called up are Ian Gerald Sudayan, June Clyde Abellano, Ricky Guarino, and Edhmic Dave Balderas of Victorias National High School; Paul John Embahador of Bata National High School; and Kervy Jules Cayetano of Lopez Jaena National High School (Murcia).
“I am very proud of my boys,” said Victorias National High School principal, Dr. Cheryl Tondo, who will be joining the team at the event. “They are so passionate.”
“This could be their passport to a college education, finish a degree, and land a good job, which will allow them to have a decent life,” she added.
Sepak takraw is one of ten events to be contested at the ASEAN School Games. Other sports include athletics, badminton, basketball, gymnastics, netball, swimming, table tennis, tenpin bowling, and volleyball.
The local athletes are expected to leave for Marikina City on July 1, with the team leaving for Singapore on July 13./WDJ
