Over 100 motorcycle drivers were apprehended for operating with a child rider, a violation of City Ordinance No. 469, or the Children’s Safety on Motorcycles Act of 2015.
Through an operation by the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO), 115 were nabbed for having a rider below the age of seven years old.
According to BTAO chief, Police Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, violators are issued a citation and given a warning on their first offense, and are assessed fines of P100 and P500 on their second and third offenses, respectively.
However, if a similar national law is implemented, Acebuche explained, violators will be penalized with a fine of P3,000 for the first offense, P5,000 for the second offense, and P10,000 plus a one-month suspension of driver’s license for the third offense./WDJ
