Negros-bound passenger nabbed for gun possession in Dumangas

A man bound for Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental was arrested by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) for gun possession at the Dumangas town port in the province of Iloilo, Tuesday afternoon.
Police identified the suspect as 54-year-old Elmer Pradilla Binas, a resident of Batad town in Iloilo, with roots in southern Negros.
PCG-Iloilo Station commander, Lieutenant Commander Ramil Palabrica, said Binas was in the process of boarding a vessel bound for Bredco port in Bacolod City, when PCG personnel and security guards discovered through an x-ray machine a .38 caliber revolver inside Binas’ bag.
PCG personnel and town police arrested Binas on the spot after he failed to produce any pertinent documents for the firearm.
When probed by police, Binas explained he was heading to Barangay Tutong in Hinoba-an town to attend the burial of his brother-in-law.
Binas could face charges for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition./WDJ
