Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia voiced his conditional support for a proposal pushed by Philippine Councilors League (PCL) president and Narvacan Town Councilor Luis ‘Chavit’ Singson for a waste-to-energy power plant. The mayor noted, he would only give his endorsement if the move was supported by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
“If it can be proven to be not harmful to the environment then good,” he said.
Singson, who is in town for the PCL national convention, earlier explained the proposal was meant to answer the growing problem of implementing the Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 and to answer the growing power needs of the country, saying, it would be a great benefit to local LGUs.
The waste to energy plant, Singson claimed, is based from European technology and will be a gasification type plant with zero smoke emission./WDJ
