The Iloilo City government announced they will donate P500,000 towards relief operations in Marawi City, which recently suffered a terrorist attack conducted by the Islamic State-backed Maute Group.
“At least 10,000 Marawi residents who were evacuated to other areas are starving – they have nothing there,” said Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog. “What we are going to give will be a big help.”
The mayor also pushed for the public to donate clothes to assist those evacuating the area.
“If you have used clothes, please collect them and place them in a plastic,” he said. “The City Social Welfare and Development Office will look for a place where we will gather the donated clothes for one week and then send it to Marawi.”
Meanwhile, City Hall offices are flying flags at half-mast to mourn the death of fallen soldiers and civilians who were killed in Marawi siege./WDJ
