Governor signs memorandum with Japanese school for scholarships

Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday with Miyakonojo Higashi High School chairman Yutaka Shimizu in order to provide scholarships for 10 local senior high school students to study at the school located in the Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan.
Marañon said the scholarships will “change the lives of so many students” and expressed his appreciation to the chairman. Shimizu, in a speech, said that he is very happy the governor accepted his invitation, adding, his decision to provide scholarships to Negrense students is his special way of giving back to the community.
Meanwhile, Miyakonojo Higashi High School vice chairman Brian Wee called the memorandum signing a “milestone in their efforts to open the door of opportunities.” /WDJ
