A Chinese group is proposing to construct a monorail system in Iloilo City, according to Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, who did not name the company but added, its executives already met President Rodrigo Duterte.
With the president establishing stronger ties with China, Davao City and Metro Cebu also announced a Chinese firm is considering constructing monorails in those areas.
Mabilog expressed optimism the proposed monorail would boost economic activities and curb worsening traffic congestion in Iloilo City.
In his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) last year, Duterte expressed support for the proposed revival of the Panay Island railway.
