Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. was in Japan over the weekend, where he visited the Nonohanakai Social Welfare, a multi-purpose nursing home facility, and the Kyushu Japanese Language School in Kagoshima. He is also set to sign a memorandum of understanding with Miyakonojo Higashi High School chairman Yutaka Shimizu providing scholarships to 10 local senior high school students to study in Japan.
The governor toured the elder care facility, which is the only one of its kind in Kagoshima that uses special robots.
Two Negrense nurses will be working in the facility in October and were provided full scholarships to continue their study of Japanese. They both got their start studying under the Organization for Industrial, Spiritual, and Cultural Advancement (OISCA), which is funded by the Negros Occidental Scholarship Program (NOSP).
The governor also conducted an ocular inspection of the Kyushu Japanese Language School, where three scholars will be studying Japanese Language for one year and six months.
Marañon is also set to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Miyakonojo Higashi High School chairman Yutaka Shimizu in order to provide “educational opportunities to motivated and deserving Negrense senior high school students who aspire to study in Japan for three years.”
According to the agreement the provincial government will screen, select, and recommend students, along with providing financial support. The school, meanwhile, will provide for full tuition fees and accommodations.
Screening for applicants will be conducted in the coming months. For more information, please visit us the NOSP Division at the PAC Building./WDJ
