The Philippine National Police (PNP) is encouraging Iloilo City banks to beef up security after a skimming device was found at a local ATM.
Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) spokesperson, Police Senior Inspector Shella Mae Sangrines, said bank management and its security agencies must cooperate and follow recommendations made by law enforcement in order to avoid future fraud cases.
Meanwhile, the ICPO believes the device may be connected to a syndicate criminal group, however, police are currently not in possession of the mechanism as bank management has since sent it to their head office in Metro Manila for an inspection.
ICPO chief, Police Senior Superintendent Remus Zacarias Canieso, also called for a separate investigation in order to identify the individuals behind the skimming device.
According to Sangrines, assembling skimming devices requires technical knowledge, and believes those behind it may not be from Iloilo, but perhaps conspired with locals.
ICPO is also urging banks to have someone monitor closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage 24/7./WDJ
