Bacolod City Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran expressed his support for plans by the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) to conduct active shooter drills, in response to the recent deadly incident that occurred at Resorts World Manila.
He said the drills are important in raising awareness at malls, offices, and other establishments on how to deal with an active shooter.
“Even security guards at major malls do not undergo this type of drill,” Familiaran stressed.
Due to the incident, Familiaran noted, it is important for police to meet with managers of various security agencies in order to review their security protocols.
If the proposal to conduct drills pushes through, the vice mayor also believes it will reduce casualties and, at the same time, aid police and security personnel on how to deal with such a situation.
Earlier, BCPO acting director, Police Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, said they are considering the trainings, describing an active shooter as an individual who is engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area or establishment./WDJ
