Bago City-native Aston ‘Mighty’ Palicte (22 wins, 2 losses, 0 draw, 18 knockouts), who is the reigning WBO Inter-Continental and North American Boxing Federation super flyweight champion, is set to avenge his brother’s loss to former WBO Oriental super flyweight champion John Mark ‘Iceman’ Apolinario (18-8-3, 4 KOs) on June 10 in their non-title bout in General Santos City.
The 10-rounder is one of the exciting boxing presentations in Sanman Promotions’ “Brawl at the Mall: The Homecoming.”
It was recalled that in 2010, Apolinario defeated Palicte’s sibling, Vincent, by a unanimous decision for the vacant WBO Oriental super flyweight belt.
“That’s why I’ve been training hard to avenge the loss of my brother,” said Palicte, who is now being trained by his brother Vincent. Palicte has undergone training and sparring sessions with different fighters at the Sanman gym including Froilan Salujar.
Palicte has won his pair of titles via split decision against then-undefeated Oscar Cantu (14-0) on December 17 last year at the Downtown Las Vegas Event Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Saranggani-native Apolinario, on the other hand, will enjoy the huge support of the home crowd during the fight nigh.
“I will try my best to win because many of my relatives will be watching our fight,” said the 27-year-old Apolinario.
Apolinario dropped his last ring assignment last year after losing to Luke Jackson by unanimous decision for the vacant WBA Oceania featherweight title in March last year in Tasmania, Australia./WDJ
