The average age of drug dependents in the country is 27 years old, with a majority between the ages of 15 and 29.
During a recent briefing to STI-West Negros University (STI-WNU) students, Police Officer 3 (PO3) Feliciano Somugat said, for every 14 male drug dependents, there is one female.
According to Somugat, most drug dependents are employed and had stated using drugs between 15 and 19 years old, with shabu as the substance of choice and, many times, sourced through friends.
He urged his audience, mostly student leaders, to avoid illegal drugs, along with cigarettes.
“Several cancer causing elements are found in smoking cigarettes,” said the police officer./WDJ
