The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Negros Island Region (DENR-NIR) and the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R) signed a memorandum of agreement to introduce environmental programs to the university for the 2017-2018 academic year.
“Urban communities play also vital role in protecting the environment,” said Negros Occidental Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) head Edgardo Rostata, adding, local government needs all the help it can get, especially in terms of the upkeep of solid waste management.
Programs will be open to all UNO-R students, including symposia, workshops, and trainings, with the first geared towards new senior high school students and college freshmen.
DENR-NIR director Livino Duran and UNO-R president, Rev. Fr. Eduardo Celiz Jr., signed the memorandum, with Rostata and UNO-R vice president for religious affairs, Rev. Fr. Abraham Latoza, witnessing the event.
“The agreement is putting this commitment on a higher level by involving more constituents,” said Latoza, indicating the programs will provide “avenues for all students to be eco-warriors.”
The memorandum of agreement between the DENR-NIR and UNO-R is automatically renewable every academic year as long as each party upholds its duties and responsibilities./WDJ
