Police officers in the Western Visayas region are ready to be deployed anytime to Marawi City.
Police Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, director of Police Regional Office-Region VI (PRO-6), said that a team consisting of more than 100 cops are currently on standby.
Binag said Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald dela Rosa has directed all regional commands to readily augment law enforcement in Marawi City.
Binag said this will be comprised of PRO-6 Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB-6) as well as the Provincial Public Safety Battalion from Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo.
The battalion is currently at Camp Delgado, PNP’s regional headquarters in Iloilo City.
Meanwhile, the Regional Joint Peace and Security Coordinating Council-Region VI (RJPSCC-6) called an emergency meeting earlier this week.
Binag and Colonel Pio Diñoso, chief of the Philippine Army’s 301st Infantry Brigade (301 IB), briefed other law enforcement agencies of the region’s vulnerability to terrorism.
President Rodrigo Duterte earlier announced he may declare martial law in the Visayas if terror threats are imminent./WDJ
