The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) recently endorsed a proposal by Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. to purchase buffaloes from Australia.
According to acting OPA head, Atty. Japhet Masculino, Australian buffalo is “far more prolific” when it comes to meat and dairy production, adding, Vietnam and Brunei recently imported around 5,000 and 400 heads, respectively.
“It is prolific because for milk production, alone, it produces around 10 to 15 liters a day,” the OPA head explained.
Meanwhile, Masculino also said they have submitted a request to the provincial government for the purchase of new vehicles.
The proposed budget, he said, amounts to around P2.4 million for two service vehicles – a pickup truck and a sports utility vehicle
There is a need for new vehicles, he explained, as most of the OPA vehicles have already broken down./WDJ
