Toboso-born Merlito ‘Tiger’ Sabillo captured the Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) light flyweight title over the weekend after knocking down Indonesian boxer Jack ‘Destroyer’ Amisa in the third round at the Gaisano City Mall-Bacolod.
It was previously reported the fight would take place at the 888 Chinatown Square Mall.
Sabillo launched numerous combinations on Amisa, forcing the Indonesian into the corner, where he received solid punches to the body and eventually falling to his knees and dropping his mouth guard onto the canvas.
“I’m very happy to win another belt,” said Sabillo.
He also expressed his desire to continue pursuing world titles.
“I have to prove to myself that I can still fight for another world title,” the boxer declared. “With Coach Sonny Villagonzalo on my team, I’m optimistic I can achieve it.”
ABF President Naris Singwancha, who was present for the fight, said, “I will be talking with the promoter for his title defense and, maybe, for the world title.”
