Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia assured city residents there is no need for panic, following the recent terror attacks by the Abu Sayyaf and Maute Groups in Marawi City, last Monday.
“We can never tell when or where the terrorist will strike, at least, with this heightened tension in Mindanao, that will keep us on our toes here,” he said. “An ounce of prevention is worth [more than] a pound of cure.”
The mayor also noted, he was recently briefed by Police Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, acting director of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), regarding the situation and will relay the information to Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Jesus Hinlo.
In terms of Martial Law in Mindanao, Leonardia said the public should look at it positively, saying, we are benefiting from the declaration.
“The government should protect itself and, among the ways the government could, is to declare Martial Law,” he explained.
The mayor added, he hopes the 60 day timetable remains in place, claiming it provides enough time to stabilize the situation./WDJ
