DA-NIR to recognize farmers, fisherfolk in ceremony today

The Department of Agriculture-Negros Island Region (DA-NIR) will recognize farmers and fisherfolk in a ceremony at the Bacolod Pavillon Hotel, today.
The ceremony will include exhibits on crops and livestock, talks on corporate rice farming, a discussion on women making change in agricultural development, testimonials from farmers, and the awarding of the 2016 Rice Achievers.
Among the recipients of NIR’s Rice Achievers are Valladolid for Outstanding Municipality, Grace Ariola and Girlie Gayanilo for Outstanding Agricultural Extension Workers, and Pastor Jerry Dionson and Sarah Villaflor for Outstanding Local Farmer Technicians.
Nominees and winners of the 2017 Gawad Saka will also be recognized.
Additionally, the Philippine Rice and Research Institute, the National Irrigation Administration, the Sugar Regulatory Administration, the National Food Authority, the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation, and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources will give agency updates./WDJ
