The Bacolod City Water District (BACIWA) will face public scrutiny as it presents is plans at the Masskara Hall of the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC), according to Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
Leonardia said he wanted the business sector and the consumers to get an update about the fresh leadership of the utility which, he added, has a “significant development” to report about the City’s water supply
The Mayor said water is a basic need of the people and what is important is the water that we are drinking is safe and convenient for all.
“Over and above, the way I see it on the issue of water has already evolved and is already undertaking the personality and identity of a factor in our economic growth and development,” Leonardia stressed.
Last Wednesday, the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) approved a resolution authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito requesting Baciwa to act on the complaints of their consumers as to the insufficiency of water supply and make a long term solution of plan of action to the problem and submit to the SP and make a public presentation.
The resolution cited that Baciwa consumers from various barangays in this city complained about the regular insufficiency of water.
Meanwhile, Bacolod Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya said he has asked the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) to give him a report about the actual water situation in the city under the BACIWA as well as in other local government units.
Gasataya said he got a chance to meet with the LWUA officials in congress last Wednesday, during a public hearing over the Water Dam project in Zamboanga.
He said there are a lot of concessionaires, including him, who have been affected by water rationing lasting only three hours a day.
Gasataya added, the people of the city want to know the status of the Bulk Water supply project of BACIWA and he has also asked the LWUA to submit a situation report of water supply of Bacolod City and other highly urbanized cities in the country./WDJ
