Negros Occidental High School (NOHS) Principal Mario Amaca confirmed classes will not be impacted by the impending transport strike and will open on their designated date of June 5, noting, it is beyond his abilities to suspend classes.
“It is beyond my capacity to suspend classes, only the DepEd (Department of Education) regional director, or Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia could declare the suspension of classes,” he explained.
Amaca added, students unable to acquire transportation to school will be excused.
Teaching staff, meanwhile, are required to attend and conduct classes.
Earlier, United Negros Drivers and Operators Center (UNDOC) Secretary-General Diego Malacad said the group will conduct a two-day transport strike beginning June 5. They are protesting a government measure that would phase-out all public utility vehicle that are at least 15 years old./WDJ
