Nine local centenarians, or a person who has reached the age of 100, each received P100,000 from the Bacolod City government, yesterday.
Of the recipients, only five were able to personally receive their cash. One died after the law took effect, and the other three were unable to attend due to health reasons and instead were represented by their family and relatives.
The cash incentives were provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and facilitated by the city’s Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD).
City Councilor Em Ang, chair of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Social Services and Development, said, aside from cash incentives, the repipients will also receive a letter of congratulations signed by President Rodrigo Duterte and a posthumous plaque of recognition for the deceased.
Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia also commended the recipients on reaching the milestone.
“We would like to congratulate these centenarians and their family for taking good care of them,” he said./WDJ
